We’re thrilled to share that our annual event, Piram Pyala, is back for 2025 with a brand-new theme: ਚੰਨ ਦੀ ਪਰਛਾਈ. Our theme will center around the idea of migration and diaspora. Both focus on traditional terms of migration, such as Partition, Punjab to the diaspora, and a woman’s journey from her paternal house to her in-laws.
This year’s celebration promises to honor our Kaurs' legacy through vibrant art, powerful stories, and shared moments of community.
Join us on February 22, 2025, from 6–9 PM for an evening celebrating art, heritage, and community.
Piram Pyala (“The Cup of Love”) is an annual initiative by the Jakara Movement to explore the feminine voice. In Gurbani, the Gurus often explored their female voices to describe the relationship of Love with the Divine. The Piram Pyala is a metaphor reflecting the importance of unconditional love. It is described as a Gift of the Guru by Guru Amardas. The noted scholar Bhai Gurdas emphasizes that the Piram Pyala is served and taken together in the Sangat (community) and is the path to reflect on our past, present, and future.
Sikhi was founded on the principles of equality and egalitarian values. However, all too often, the women in our community are marginalized and their voices suppressed. This event is a commitment to challenging privileges, empowering the feminine voices in all of us, and fighting structural oppressions in our community.
