ASB 2011

All collegiate students, of any or no religious background, are invited to apply to be part of an unforgettable adventure next Spring Break. CONOCIMIENTO is an experience in service, advocacy, learning and spiritual reflection in San Diego, California, March 20-22, 2011. Participants (10-15 students) will begin discussions to prepare for the trip, exploring the role of Sikhi and religion in movements for social change, and exploring immigrant justice issues throughout the United States. The days in San Diego will be both a service-learning experience and an interfaith spiritual retreat.

In the San Diego area, we will work with faith-based groups focused on human rights and immigration reform. We’ll meet with undocumented migrants crossing the US-Mexico border, Border Patrol (“migra”) officers, and people of faith working for immigration reform. We’ll volunteer at a meal program and a medical clinic that serve undocumented people. We’ll visit the US side of the border fence. We’ll have free time for enjoying the cultural richness of the area, as well. We’ll be living simply for the week, sleeping in sleeping bags, and sharing meals with local people.

Registration for the trip will be $50 and is open to those ages 18+. Additional details will soon follow.

Deadline to apply is FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2011.
