What We Do

The following are a list of current projects.  As we build the website, we will put up more of our projects.  We are always looking for new projects.  Find a need – create a solution – get involved!

Current Projects:

  • j.Konference – our annual Sikh youth conference.  Now in its 10th year.  Jakara 2010 will be in June 2010.  Keep checking for details.
  • j.Juniors Kids Kamps – our semiannual camps seek to use innovative teaching methodologies to inspire the young generation about their glorious heritage.  Held twice a year (October and April) throughout California and beyond, the camp provides volunteer opportunities and a chance to serve the community, while raising essential social and religious issues for our Qaum’s growth.
  • j.Kollegiates – includes our education initiatives.  We hold college fairs, free tutoring under our “The Study Hall” initiative, and a scholarship – Bhai Amrik Singh Scholarship for Excellence.
  • j.Kharkhoos – our leadership development and training sessions serve to help develop the next generation of Sikh community activists.  A curriculum using examples of Gurbani and Sikh history, participants engage with other strategic and tactical methodologies based on Sarbat Khalsa and Gurmata traditions of consensus-building.

1984-Related Projects:

  • Sukhmani Sahib for the Shaheeds – a series of Sukhmani Sahibs held throughout the US during the first week of June to remember our Sikh heroes and sheroes.
  • Visions for Truth: 1984 Movie Screenings – a series of 1984-related movie screenings throughout California.  Planned August 2009.  More details to follow….
  • Silent Marches – a solemn commemoration throughout California, remembering the Indian State-sponsored Pogroms in Delhi 1984.  Planned November 2009.  More details to follow….
  • Alliance for Justice Week – collegiate initiative to remember all victims of genocides.  Planned November 2009.  More details to follow….

Upcoming Projects:

  • Ladoos: Pink and Blue – public health pilot project in Central California to begin tackling the issue of sex-selective abortions within the Sikh community.  More details to follow….
  • Sikholars: Sikh Graduate Student Conference – a research-oriented conference that will present a spectrum of analysis on the Sikh community.  Planned February 2010.  More details to follow….
  • j.Kollege Kollaborative – project to bring together all Californian Sikh collegiate student organizations together.  Launched at Jakara 2009.  More detials to follow….
