ridgeview.jpgSupport the initiative for Punjabi language classes at Ridgeview High School in Bakersfield, CA.

Following in the foot steps of other Punjabi language programs in high schools such as James Logan High School (Union City, CA), Yuba City High School (Yuba City, CA), Livingston High School (Livingston, CA), and Kerman High School (Kerman, CA), and now Central High School (Fresno,CA), we the undersigned want to see the Punjabi language taught at Ridgeview High School.  Ridgeview High School's campus is nearly 10% students of Punjabi descent and they, along with their non-Punjabi, peers would love to engage, flourish, and develop their skills in the Punjabi language.  Ridgeview High School would be a pathbreaker in the city of Bakersfield, offering "Asian languages" including Punjabi.

This initiative needs full community support. The school district wants to see that there is in fact Punjabi community support for this initiative and want to see that students would be willing to take this class. Please sign the petition, ask your family to sign it, ask your friends to sign it, ask your co-workers to sign-it, pass it around, spread it on social media - and let's make this a reality. Let's see preserve Punjabi and see it taught in our schools.

We need to come up with a long term strategy to succeed. Parents of our young children are not motivated enough to convince their children to sign up for a Punjabi class. This is the hurdle we have faced in Logan High here in Union City.

I support the demand for a Punjabi Class, which is very well needed. In fact this is degnated as one of the 14 critical languages needed in United States for the defense of our country

This initiative is a great thing. To teach and learn Punjabi in a high school setting will foster knowledge about heritage, difference, and provide students opportunity to excel at something and note that accomplishment as they apply for college and employment.
